US Silver Coins

The Gold Ladies also purchase US silver coins.  However we do not buy coins in mint condition as a collector would, We buy coins for their scrap silver metal value only.  So if you suspect that your coins may be rare or have collector value, take them to a coin dealer.

But for those of you who have a coffee can of coins that you have been saving or have inherited, the Gold Ladies will buy coins with years 1969 and before.  It is easy to pick out coins with silver by looking at the sides of the coins by holding a roll of them in your hand.  The ones containing silver will have an obvious silver color, where as coins made after 1969, will have a layer of copper color.  Once you eliminate the ones with the copper layers, check and sort the remaining silver coins in stacks as below:

Years 1935 and Earlier Silver dollars

1964 Half DollarYears 1964 and Earlier

  • Half dollars
  • Quarters
  • Dimes

Years 1965 - 1969

  • Half dollars
Flatware The Gold Ladies also purchase sterling flatware such as knives, spoons and forks and serving pieces. All flatware must be marked as sterling (see above marks for sterling) or we may not purchase it. We cannot purchase weighted sterling items such as candlestick holders or salt and pepper shakers because they contain plaster, cement, wood fill and other fillers that give the piece weight from tipping over on a table.
